THE INDIE OCEAN MEMORIAL
Описание: Whether combining a noticeably large list of post-punk influences with raw garage-rock juggernaut sounds or fiddling around with Radiohead-like weirdo sketches, The Indie Ocean from St. Petersburg, Russia has never ceased to stay away from the perilous path of pastiche bands, making its way with independent attitude and elaborated approach to the style.
It wasn't until late 2003 that the idea of Serge, Igor and Alex to start a band received its realization. Having gained enough experience, the members of the newly created Kaleidoscope soon extended it to a sextet featuring young orchestra cellist and violinist and a self-taught flute player. Constant style searches led them through an indeed kaleidoscopic series of late night psychedelic jams fueled with alcohol and light drugs consumption intertwined with conscientious prog-rock chaotic improvisations, one of the chief influences being the St Pete concert of Belgium avantgarde legend dEUS. Regrettably, due to the growing alienation inside the group, increasing drugs abuse, and moving of the flutist-and-guitarist to Canada, Kaleidoscope eventually split up in early 2006. However, the same year the same initial trinity decided to move on and created a completely new project dubbed The Indie Ocean. It was a truckload of garage rock-and-roll covers that were used as a start when a new bassist, Valentine, burst into the band, which instantly gave several concerts in the city clubs.
The magical formula of distinguishing guitars, drums, and bass that had been initially intended as the main form of expression was slightly updated after several experiments with electronic sound. Experiments with sound continued in '07 when the IO began writing their own songs, having prepared a whole new program in a two months' rehearsals marathon marked with mystic happenings with crashing cars and broken legs. Nevertheless, the band kept polishing their tone in live gigs and studio sessions, discovering more and more edges of the vintage vibe that has never left their hearts. They started to explore the seamless ocean of warm analog synth sound with a lucky strike of buying a '83 Vermona, soon finding themselves mixing Kasabian-ish punky electronics with the dazzle of early '90s rave. Quickly overwhelmed by the idea of recording a debut EP, the band could not help but find a studio and immediately start working. By this time their songs had received a distinctive post-punk intonation, even expanding it further to the field of noisy landscapes reminding of the Sonic Youth's best years.
As the band's name reads, the Indie Ocean, or the IO, is always floating through the new waves of music. As the namesake of the Jupiter's moon, the effects of IO's eccentric orbit and Jupiter's strong gravitation pull combine to give IO an ever-changing landscape of beauty.
Anyway, after releasing in the Internet some of the tracks of the Unexpected Golf Party EP and giving several concerts around St Petersburg, the band split.
