A SENSE OF INVOLVEMENT IN THE TASKS OF NATIONAL BUILDING Three years for now, I worked as a volunteer and student coordinator at National Service Scheme (NSS) which is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. NSS thought me "NOT ME, BUT YOU". This reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society on the whole.NSS has inculcated social welfare in me, and to provide service to society without bias. I have worked to ensure that everyone who is needy gets help to enhance their standard of living and lead a life of dignity. In doing so, I have learned from people in villages how to lead a good life despite a scarcity of resources. Some of my camps (camps are usually a week programme) activities at NSS: Cleaning, Forestation, Stage shows or a procession creating awareness of such issues as social problems, education and cleanliness, Awareness Rallies & Inviting doctors for health camps – at rural village or a city suburb. Typical projects: Adoption of villages, Construction and repair of slum schools, Afforestation, Literacy classes, Water conservation, Tree plantation, Blood donation and Traffic control. INSPIRING YOUTH FOR STRENGTHENING DEMOCRACY I am associated with INDIAN STUDENT PARLIAMENT (ISP)/BHARATIYA CHATTRA SANSAD (BCS). I have joined in January 2012 as a student leader and later on went to be elected as the State President. Mission of Indian Student Parliament is to mobilize the Student Union Leaders of India to come together on a single platform with a view to entering public life and bringing about a positive change in the leadership of the country. This will be done by regularly convening parliament of student leaders at national and state levels in collaboration with the state legislative assemblies and by exposing the leaders to eminent personalities of repute, who will guide them in this endeavour. At ISP around 12, 000 socially/politically active students from various colleges and universities of India assemble and deliberate on issues significant for having a secure, egalitarian, democratic, liberal, peaceful and inclusive society. GLOBAL STUDENT COOPERATION I am associated with Global Student Leadership Summit/Cooperation as an Indian Ambassador. The summit has brought together student leaders from around the world to share, learn and critique global education, sustainability, peace and social justice. The Summit gathered at a time of great societal challenge and uncertainty. Students still face demonization, imprisonment, expulsion and murder. For often leading protest movements, they are thus victimised by various regimes. Furthermore, many governments and decision-makers around the world have adopted massive cuts in education budgets and increased the financial burden on students and their families. Technology and the emergence of the digital age has served to change the way in which education institutions operate, posing new challenges for the future. Student leaders from a wide range of national and regional student organisations have come together to discuss the challenges students are facing today and how greater levels of international cooperation can serve to improve the lives of students as well as wider society. The student organizations have expressed their commitment to improve collaborative involvement at a global level in order to fight more effectively together for the rights of the tens of millions of students we represent. ONE DAY OF PEACE I am also associated with Peace One Day. 21 September is Peace Day, a day for individuals everywhere to become involved in the peace process, as well as a day that provides a window of opportunity for aid agencies to carry out life-saving work. Peace One Day’s objective is to institutionalise Peace Day 21 September, making it a day that is self-sustaining, an annual day of global unity, a day of intercultural cooperation on a scale that humanity has never known. I am involved in Global Truce Campaign and Student Coalition. I have travelled to London’s Wembley arena last September on 21st to join student leaders from 30 nations to advocate Global Truce Campaign.
