He is regarded as one of the most enigmatic and attention-grabbing entertainers in WWE history. Captivating the WWE Universe with his mystifying voice and peculiar facial expressions for more than a decade, Paul Bearer remains a living legend for wrestling fans across the globe. Mostly associated as the uncanny caretaker for The Undertaker, Kane and Mankind, Bearer joined WWE in 1990. Dressed in a grim black suit, the spooky Alabama funeral businessman was assigned to mentor The Phenom in early 1991. In addition to being a bizarre spokesman for The Undertaker during pre- and post-match interviews, Bearer also controlled The Deadman’s strength. By raising his trademark urn in the air at pivotal moments of bouts, the eccentric manager would often catapult his competitor to victory. Bearer’s relationship, however, took an unexpected turn when he betrayed The Undertaker at SummerSlam 1996 and sided with Mankind. Shortly after, it was revealed that the dour leader had a son who was also the half-brother of his former associate
Kane, whom The Undertaker had believed was lost in a childhood tragedy, became Bearer’s newest prodigy when he released The Big Red Machine in Oct. 1997. The brothers had an ongoing grudge before Bearer reunited with The Phenom to help form The Ministry of Darkness in 1999. Following another brief stint as the guider of Kane again, Bearer departed from the WWE realm in 2000. He has made occasional on-air appearances since then, however, including a reunion with The Undertaker at Wrestlemania XX in 2004
